Clare Abbott

Introduction

Clare has represented Ireland at European, World Games and Olympic level in the equestrian sport of eventing. She competes regularly at 3* and 4* (the highest levels in eventing) in the UK and Europe. Clare is currently one of the top International eventers in Ireland and had some impressive results in the 2016 season – in preparation for the Olympic Games at Rio, where she was selected as part of the Irish Olympic squad. Career highlights so far are 9th place at Pau CCI**** in October 2015, three Badminton CCI**** completions in 2014, 2015 and 2017 and Burghley CCI**** 13th in 2017.

Clare is based in Hillsborough, Northern Ireland and runs a professional Eventing yard. This involves training, and competing horses from four year olds to four star level competition. She began riding at two years old, started Eventing aged fifteen and represented Ireland, as a Junior (U18) and Young Rider (U21), at the European Championships in 2003 and 2007.

Clare has a strong line of horses, competing at pre-novice up to 4* level, and a fantastic team behind her.

“My strengths lie in the high standards that I set in all aspects of my horses’ preparation, training and stable management. This includes having happy, healthy and impeccably turned out horses that are well produced, fit and up to the standard required of them at their particular level. I focus on producing a smaller number of quality young horses, who will achieve top results at major events, rather than mass producing young horses for sale. This allows me to spend the time that each horse requires to get the best out of them and the fact I have started them as four or five year olds allows me to build up an exceptional partnership with each one”.
