RIHS and the 2017 season so far!
Well, what an exciting and successful season this has been so far! Oliver (Tyan First Night) and I have managed to qualify for three classes at the Royal International Horse Show. This seasons successes began with two wins in qualifiers and an open RI championship at the BSPS Winter Championships qualifying for the Open and the Pretty Polly classes. Oliver then went on to win at Surrey County show qualifying for the Young Riders Intermediate final to complete his hat trick; three classes qualified for at the RIHS.
The Royal International was a wet one this year and the show ground turned into a massive mud pit. This instantly put us, the owners of a grey connemara into a panic; with brown muddy legs being our worst nightmare! Oliver also has a tendency to stick his head over the door in the rain and gets himself filthy by rubbing his ears and face on the sides of the stable. The Belvoir Rug Company Honsie was a lifesaver this summer and kept Oliver sparkling clean in his stable overnight, even when he had laid in his poo, and kept him clean when travelling.
Oliver gained a 4th in the Young Riders Intermediate class on the first day after being pulled in top and doing a foot perfect show. The next day Oliver competed in the Connemara and New Forest Open class and was sadly unplaced after a little blip in our show when he got totally bogged down in the deep mud.
We took Oliver home on the Thursday evening after his second class and brought him up again on the Saturday for his final class on the Sunday so he could have a break in his field for a day and a half. Our final class was the Pretty Polly Home Produced class where Oliver went beautifully to gain a 7th place. I couldn’t be happier with him as two placings at The Royal International Horse Show is a massive achievement!
Oliver and I are ending the season with the BSPS Heritage Championships in October with the aim of qualifying for the Royal International Horse Show 2018. Fingers crossed!
